When we started Mother’s Earth, I made myself one promise: “If I wouldn’t use it for my own family, it doesn’t go into your home.” I believe cleaning should never come at the cost of your health or our planet. And trust, real trust, can’t be built with vague claims or half-truths.

It requires complete transparency. Proof over promises. Science over slogans.

But let me be clear:

We’re not perfect.
We’re improving every day.
And we share every test we do — unfiltered and in full — so you can see exactly what we see.

Because safety and sustainability aren’t marketing angles. They’re a responsibility. A journey. One we want to take with you. That’s why we created this page: to show you exactly how we test our products, what the results mean, and what we still want to do better.

And that’s where Dr. Earthy comes in.

Meet Dr. Earthy

Dr. Earthy is our friendly in-house guide who helps translate complex lab language into simple, human words.

His job is to make sure:

every clean is a safe clean
we explain science in a way everyone can understand, not just chemists
we stay honest, even when the results are nuanced, complicated, or “still improving”

Think of him as the bridge between your home, our formulas, and the independent labs that test them.

What We Test (So Far)

Right now, our independent lab tests focus on three big questions:

Is it safe for skin?
Does it biodegrade, and how fast?
What’s not in our products?

Every test below was performed by independent, accredited laboratories. And yes, we publish the full reports.

What is a Patch Test?

Here’s how dermatologists scientifically check skin safety:

Small samples on the skin

Tiny amounts of the product are placed on your skin using medical patches.

24–48 hours reaction time

Your skin “speaks” — calmly (good) or irritated (not good).

Dermatologist evaluation

A professional checks for redness, itchiness, or inflammation.

Results

Calm skin → approved

Irritation → not approved

Patch tests are one of the most trusted methods for products that touch your skin often, like detergents, lotions, or soaps.

In simple terms, this test measures:

How much of a product breaks down into CO₂ and water

Over 28 days, in conditions designed to mimic real-world wastewater treatment

Laundry Detergent Sheets

Test: OECD 301B

How they break down:

~82% biodegraded in 7 days

~98% in 14 days

~98% in 28 days (Readily biodegradable)

What this means:

Our laundry sheets break down extremely fast — almost completely within just two weeks.

Dishwasher Sheets

How they break down:

~80% biodegraded in 7 days

~95% in 14 days

~98% in 28 days (Readily biodegradable)

What this means:

Dishwasher formulas usually need to be strong, but ours manages both — power and biodegradability.

Scent Beads (Fragrance Booster)

How they break down:

~73% in 28 days (Biodegradable) in 7 days

What this means:

Fragrance is the hardest part of any formula to biodegrade, and also one of the things families love most. We’re proud of the 73% result, and equally committed to pushing it higher in future versions.

~61% in 7 days

~80% in 14 days

~90% in 28 days (Biodegradable and Not Classified as a microplastic under EU definition)

What this means:

We chose a tested and verified form of PVA that breaks down well within the 28-day benchmark.

What’s NOT in Our Products

Just as important as what we include — is what we leave out.

We avoid the harsh chemicals you’ll often find in traditional detergents, because they can harm your skin and our waterways.
